This measures the maximum amount of oxygen your body uses during a graded exercise test (GXT). This test can determine your aerobic threshold (AeT) and anaerobic, or lactate, threshold (AT or LT) allowing the exercise physiologist to design a custom workout based upon your heart rates at these levels and your personal goals. This is a screening, or ranking and grading system, that demonstrates an individual’s functional limitations from previous injury or poor conditioning. It can help predict the possibility of future injury, as well. These results can be used by a medical professional to create a custom exercise program to correct the deficits and restore proper function to the athlete (or individual).
This is very similar to VO2 testing, and can measure both the aerobic and anaerobic energy systems and how they interact during a workout. This test is performed during a workout of increasing intensity (GXT) designed to push an individual through the energy systems. A blood sample is taken at various times during the workout to determine what stage you’re in, at that moment.
This battery of tests is a precise computerized assessment of your neurocognitive status, which measures the speed and accuracy of 9 basic mental functions: composite memory, verbal memory, visual memory, processing speed, executive function, psycho-motor speed, reaction time, complex attention, and cognitive flexibility. These mental functions are indicators of the health and integrity of the brain’s higher functions. The test takes 25-30 minutes.
Once your metabolic test is complete, the information will be used to calculate your Target Caloric Zones. With these zones, you can learn what it means to “eat to your metabolism”. You will be able to eat the maximum amount possible and still lose weight. Your body will be healthy, happy, and satisfied, and the pounds will melt off! And keeping the weight off is no longer a struggle because this time you have let your body tell you what it needs to succeed.
DeXA Bone Mineral Density
This technique is the “gold standard” for the measurement of bone density. It involves the use of 2 x-ray beams aimed at the bone. DeXA is a valuable test for monitoring bone mineral density changes over time as well as a person’s response to osteoporosis treatment. Measuring the bone density at the spine and both hips, the test takes about 20 minutes and involves a low radiation exposure. The results are given as a T-score, which reflects how much the bone mineral density is above or below the normal.
DeXA Body Composition
Body composition measurement consists of a full body scan, using state-of-the-art equipment known as the GE Lunar Prodigy Dual X-ray Absorptiometry. This test gives true, accurate and precise measurements of your body composition, fat tissue mass, lean tissue mass, and exact body fat percentage. This will provide us with a detailed outline of what areas of your body require specific attention. Body composition provides important total-body as well as regional information. Obesity is linked to many debilitating and life-threatening disorders. Body Mass Index (BMI) gives a simple measurement of obesity. A DeXA scan provides a very accurate and reproducible measurement compared to impedance scale measurement, which can produce great variation in results during the course of the day, depending on the amount of water in our body at that specific time.
Knowing your body composition is important before starting an adequate treatment plan to prevent disease. But it is also important for sports medicine applications. For highly trained athletes, even a small change in body composition can significantly affect performance. Body composition monitoring provides valuable information that athletes and their trainers can use to adjust diet and training regimens. Body Composition measurement helps to establish a starting point and a target, helping any athlete to pursue a specific goal. A color image fat analysis will be provided in the report along with all the measurements.
