Are you bothered by underarm sweating?

You are not alone! Did you know that …

  1. More than 2.8% of the world’s population is affected by severe excessive sweating; that means more than four million people in the United States.
  2. In people who have excessive sweating, the sweat glands are over-reacting to stimuli such as physical activity, exercise, emotions or hormones and producing more sweat than is needed to cool the body.
  3. From physical discomfort to anxiety, embarrassment and the stress of always hiding your sweat from others, excessive sweating can impact nearly all aspects of your life.

Excessive underarm sweating is an embarrassing problem, leading to stained clothing, body odor, anxiety and even social isolation. In some cases, underarm sweating is easily controlled with the correct application and use of antiperspirants. However, if the excessive sweating is an ongoing problem which has affected you for more than 6 months, you are suffering from hyperhidrosis. Some treatments can now help you have this problem under control.

Botox

Research demonstrates that treating excessive sweating of the armpits, hands, feet, head and face (craniofacial), and other relatively small body areas (like under the breasts) with onabotulinumtoxin A is safe and effective. When used to treat underarm excessive sweating, Botox has been shown to result in an 82-87% decrease in sweating. Usually 100 units of Botox are needed to treat both armpits. Results start to be noticeable approximately 2 to 4 days after treatment with the full effects usually noted within 2 weeks. Dryness typically lasts 4 to 12 months, but some studies have found it can last as long as 14 months.

Botox injections work well on the head and face, but the injection technique requires skill in order to avoid facial asymmetry. Botox can also be used for hand and plantar hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating of the hands and feet), but patients report more pain during plantar injections and statistics indicate the treatment is less effective than when used for other body sites.

Precision TX™

Precision TX™ is an option for dealing with excessive underarm sweating (hyperhydrosis) and odor, only requires one treatment and offers lasting results. This revolutionary, minimally invasive procedure utilizes a unique and focused delivery of laser energy to target and ablate the sweat glands within the axillae (underarms).

A starch iodine test is done to identify the sweat glands in the axilla. Local anesthesia is administered to the area and a small laser fiber is placed under the skin and is directed to the area where the sweat glands were identified before. The laser is fired, destroying the sweat glands permanently. There is minimal or no downtime after the procedure.
