Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid) is a water-soluble vitamin found in many fruits and vegetables. It is an essential vitamin, meaning your body can’t produce it. The recommended daily intake for Vitamin C is 75mg. for women and 90mg. for men.

There are many proven benefits of Vitamin C, among them:

  • Vitamin C is a strong antioxidant that can boost your blood antioxidant levels. This may help reduce the risk of chronic diseases like heart disease.
  • Vitamin C may boost immunity by helping white blood cells function more effectively, strengthening your skin’s defense system, and helping wounds heal faster.
  • Vitamin C supplements have been found to lower blood pressure in both healthy adults and those with high blood pressure.
  • Vitamin C supplements have been linked to a reduced risk of heart disease. These supplements may lower heart disease risk factors, including high blood levels of LDL (bad) cholesterol and triglycerides.
  • Low Vitamin C levels have been linked to an increased risk of memory and thinking disorders like dementia, while a high intake of Vitamin C from foods and supplements has been shown to have a protective effect.
  • Vitamin C can improve the absorption of iron that is poorly absorbed, such as iron from meat-free sources. It may also reduce the risk of iron deficiency.

Cancer Protocol: High-dose Vitamin C has been used for decades as an adjuvant in patients with cancer in an attempt to further reduce the number of cancer cells. It can be used in conjunction with other therapies (surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy). This treatment requires a very high intravenous dose of Vitamin C (normal daily requirements are between 75-90mg.). Gradual increases up to 75-100gm. per infusion are done until desired blood levels of Vitamin C are reached. We also use Glutathione as an additional antioxidant during these infusions. At AgeFocus we follow the Riordan Clinic protocol. Patients start with daily infusions with a gradual daily increase in Vitamin C. Blood levels of Vitamin C are measured after each infusion. After the first 4-5 daily infusions, we usually change to a three-times-a-week regimen and after therapeutic blood levels are reached, infusions are done twice-a-week. Treatment time varies from 30min., with starting dose, to 3 hours when reaching a very high dose.
